Code of Conduct
The Konza Prairie Biological Station (KPBS) is committed to fostering research, education, and community engagement in a safe, welcoming, and inclusive environment. All people at KPBS, including researchers, students, employees, and visitors are expected to treat one another in a respectful and professional manner. We all share responsibility for holding our community to these standards of conduct. In addition to following University policies, we ask all members of the KPBS community to support and adhere to our norms of respectful and professional conduct.
Expected behavior
- Be welcoming and inclusive of all people
- Treat others with respect
- Act ethically and with integrity
- Foster a collaborative, equitable research environment
- Value and respect diverse views and opinions of others
- No harassing or discriminatory remarks or actions
- Protect, preserve, and responsibly use KPBS resources and property
Unacceptable behavior (list is not comprehensive)
- Harassment, abuse, stalking, or threats in-person or virtually
- Unwelcome physical contact
- Discriminatory comments or behavior related to race, ethnicity, religion, national origin, gender, sexual orientation, disability, or physical appearance
- Abuse of power dynamics
- Conduct that prevents another person from exercising their freedom of expression, as long as this expression does not violate this Code of Conduct
Sanctions for unacceptable behavior - Sanctions will be commensurate with the nature and severity of the offense, whether violations have been persistent, and the impact of the offense on any other people involved. Sanctions may include one or more of the following:
- Warning/Reprimand
- Reassignment of work or research activities
- Restricted or conditional use of KPBS facilities
- Suspension or termination of permission to be on KPBS property
- Paid or unpaid leave of absence
- Suspension or termination of employment
Report suspected or alleged misconduct to any or all of the following:
- A supervisor or instructor/group leader
- A KPBS staff member
- The KPBS Director (John Blair, jblair@ksu.edu)
- The Human Capital Services specialist in the KSU Division of Biology (Melissa Bruce, melbruce@ksu.edu, 785-532-6615)
